"Celebrate Midwives' Day!"

International Midwives’ Day was first celebrated May 5, 1991, & has been observed in most nations around the world ever since.  Beginning in 2004 Idaho began recognizing May 5 as MIDWIVES DAY, receiving a Proclamation from the Governor every year.  Here in Bonners Ferry we began our Midwives Day Celebrations in 2005.

Join us at the Pearl from 11-2 for refreshments, to visit with the midwives, friends & families in your community.   We have a cute collection of clothes, props, & hats for a photo shoot with the kids from 11-2pm.  There will be a crafts table for the children and a group photo taken at 1 pm.   Bring in those children so we can see how much they have grown!

Join us in the evening for desserts and viewing of the new films MORE BUSINESS OF BEING BORN and GUERILLA MIDWIFE from 6:30-9pm including a Q&A.  You will have the opportunity to learn about midwifery and the excellent care we provide.

All this is provided for FREE from your local midwives!

"Doug Bond in Concert"

Doug Bond was raised in northwest Oregon and moved to Sandpoint to start his family in 1995.  He discovered his passion for music at the age of 16 and grew to become a world class flat picker. Along the way he realized his passion for guitar and mandolin wasn't something he could live without! Some of his accomplishments include being voted Best Bluegrass Vocalist in Oregon, winning the Columbia River Gorge Bluegrass contest and the Stevenson Bluegrass Festival Contest. His vocal ability is such that you almost forget how exceptional his guitar playing happens to be. Coupled with his sense of humor and professional presentation you've got great music!
As a proud father of four, Doug has learned a lot about teaching, which he turned into a career in 2002 when he started teaching music as a full time job. Doug has been playing music professionally all over the west coast for over 30 years and has shared the stage with Ricky Skaggs, Tim O'Brien, Kathy Mattea, Bill Monroe, Allison Krauss, The Seldom Scene, 3rd Time Out, Emmylou Harris, Mason Williams  and Steve Kauffman.

Doug is working on a soundtrack for an Independent film & preparing to produce his 6th album. He is looking forward to his performance at The Pearl Theater and hopes you will come and be entertained! He loves to meet his audience, so be sure and introduce yourself afterward!

Tickets are $12 advance and $15 at the door.

Ticket outlets:  Bonners Books, Mtn Mike's Healthfood, Under The Sun, Eikhardt's, Pedro's, and Headlines

"On Stage at The Pearl" -- Gabe Feller & Lauren Skye Palmer

The audience is in for a treat when these two emerging young artists who recently starred in "Walk a Mile" join forces.  They were a highlight of the "Walk a Mile" show singing "Into the West" from "Lord of the Rings" among other pieces.  Gabe is a multi-talented pianist/vocalist/guitarist who leaves everyone thinking he's the next Billy Joel or Elton John. Lauren can belt out a song with the panache of a professional musical theater performer and she writes amazing piano compositions to boot. Audiences will also remember her as Mayzie in "Seussical" and the lead in "Peter Pan". Who knows what tremendous music will be coming from these two young Bonners Ferry artists down the road... we can say we knew them when they were starting their journey! They will be joined by saxophonist Michael Palmer and other friends.

Tickets are $8 at the door. The Cafe at The Pearl opens at 6 pm with "all you can eat" soup and breads for $6, plus an array of beverages and beautiful desserts.

"Gary Eller and the Smithsonian Museum Exhibit"

Gary Eller will appear at the museum on May 20th at 2pm for his presentation Historical Based Songs of Working Men and Women.

After the museum presentation, everyone will migrate to The Pearl where the audience will participate in a rancorous recording of a song that was sung when Boundary county split from Bonner county. This recording will be used in his Idaho Song Project that he does for the Idaho Humanities Council.   After the recording session Gary and the base player from his band Chicken Dinner Road will stay around for a” Jam Session” with as many of our local musicians that want to play.

This will be a fun event with lots of interaction between the audience and the musicians.  Hope to see you all there!

Performers' Circle- open mic and jam session

Grab your guitar, or drums, or fiddle; warm up that voice, go over that poem, story, or comedy act and head to the Pearl Theater on Friday May 25 for a jam session and open mic. Doors open at 6 pm and the fun starts at 7 pm. "The Performer's Circle" has become just that: performers sit in a circle, informally, one by one everyone introduces themselves and their song, poem, story, or comedy act. Many performers invite the whole group to join in and you just never know what is going to happen in these open jam sessions! Most everything is done acoustically but if you need a small amp bring it along. A tuned piano is available. If your whole band is coming and you want to do a performance on stage you are welcome as well... just come at 6 to set up.

Audience sits at tables around the performers' circle. The Cafe at the Pearl is open at 6 pm for "2 buck chuck" night. Pizza, snacks, beer, wine just $2 each.

Free entrance !! Donations accepted to offset the use of the theater.
